Why do shock absorbers wear out?
After 20,000 km, a shock absorber has been stressed at least 1 million times! It is subject to natural and progressive wear that depends on the mileage covered,
on the vehicle's load, driving style, and road profile.
TIP
Have your shock absorbers checked by an authorized repairer at least every 20,000 km.
SIGNS OF SHOCK ABSORBER WEAR
Abnormal tendency of the vehicle to skid in tight turns. "Vehicle sway" in wider turns. Dull noise when passing over a speed bump. Wheel vibration during acceleration, with loss of grip. Oil leakage on the shock absorber body. Abnormal tire wear.
RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH SHOCK ABSORBER WEAR
Braking distance can increase by up to 35%. The vehicle's tendency to aquaplane increases by 15%. Tire life can be reduced by up to 25%. Adjacent components risk damage: joints, suspension ball joints, engine mounts, etc...
SHOCK ABSORBERS AND INSPECTION
The mandatory inspection, particularly strict for safety components, is inflexible regarding the condition of the shock absorbers. If an oil leak, abnormal operation, or poor state of preservation of the shock absorbers is detected, the vehicle will not pass the inspection.
